The Wash-Up – GDFL Semi-Finals

GDFL SCOREBOARD – SEMI-FINALS

DAMNED IF YOU, DAMNED IF YOU DON’T

Werribee Centrals coach Nick Smith was among the onlookers as Thomson booked a berth in consecutive grand finals with a win over Bannockburn in the second semi-final. However, he tossed up whether to head along for the battle of the Tigers. “It’s funny. You kind of feel like you’re getting a bit ahead of yourself if you go,” Smith said. “But, then I figured if I don’t go, you might be missing a chance to pick up on a few things. From our perspective, not much surprised us. Thomson has done that to most teams, where they’ve just out-Thomsoned everyone else.”

TIGERS TAKE DIFFERENT PATH TO DECIDER

In 2018, Thomson had to play all four weeks of finals on its way to snapping a 10-year premiership drought. This year, the minor premier will play just twice after winning through to the decider with a 44-point second semi-final win over Bannockburn. “It’s nice to have the contrast this year,” captain Sam Jacka told K rock’s The Wash-Up. “We did it the hard way last year and had to play all weeks. It was really good for us, in terms of what we built last year. We were riding a pretty strong wave of momentum. This year’s probably a little bit different. It probably plays into our hands a little bit better, hopefully, with a bit of an older list and having that week off.”
