The Wash-Up – GDFL Round 2

WINNERS

GDFL SCOREBOARD – ROUND 2

“THE” RESULT

Bannockburn has held off a fast-finishing Bell Post Hill by two points to remain unbeaten heading into the Easter break. The Tigers led by 23 points at the final change at Victoria Park, before the Panthers came storming home with five goals. In just his second game since coming out of retirement, Jason Tom starred for Bannockburn with three goals in a best-on-ground performance.

THE TALKING POINT

After a 97-point loss in Round 1, discussion centred around whether Bell Post Hill’s era of dominance was officially done. However, the Panthers, despite falling short of Bannockburn at Victoria Park, showed enough to suggest they will not go quietly into the night. Some talent departed during the off-season. (Addie, Lymer, Urquhart, Barton to name a few). However, there are still names like James, Fantella, Bacely and Walve that will ensure any trip to Myers Reserve in 2019 will be a tough one.

BIG WINNER

Geelong West put a disappointing opening round performance behind it to hand Corio 139-point hiding. The Giants had 14 individual goal kickers as it put the struggling Devils to the sword. Recruit Aidan Cole was outstanding with four majors. They face a tricky trip to Anake when the season resumes on April 27.
