Troy ready for his chance

TROY Fenyvesi says he is “pretty ecstatic” at the chance to join the majority of his Thomson teammates as a premiership player.

The midfielder was the heartbreak story of the Tigers’ 2018 premiership after a knee injury suffered in last year’s first semi-final ended his season a fortnight earlier than planned.

Fenysvesi spent time in the senior and reserve grade teams throughout 2019 but a solid performance in the second semi-final win over Bannockburn should see him earn his shot at redemption on September 15.

“Obviously you hurt a bit, but it was just a huge motivator for me to get back knowing that the list that we had we were a good chance to be there again,” he said.

“Yeah, it was hard. But it’s motivated me to get back this year and do the extras I had to do.

“It’s been a blessing for me this year.

“If I didn’t have the chip on my shoulder, it might have been a bit hard to do the stuff I needed to do to get back.”

Fenyvesi, who joined Thomson ahead of the 2018 season from Modewarre, says regaining his fitness off the back of his injury took time.

“It probably took me three-quarters of the year to get my body back to 100 per cent and get to the point where I could do the extra work I had to do to get fit again,” he said.

“That’s come good at the right time of year.”

“Hopefully everything goes good over the next couple of weeks and I get my shot in a couple of weeks.”

With Josh Westwood a certain starter for the grand final after missing the second semi-final with a hamstring injury, Fenyvesi knows tough calls will have to be made.

“So, to an extent (you’re on edge). But the coaches are really good talking to us about our roles in the side and making sure we execute that,” he said.

“I think I did that on Saturday, so I put my hand up (for a grand final berth).

“That’s all you can really do, I suppose.”
