Tiger pair top coaches again

THOMSON duo Reece Holwell and Brent Taylor have been named co-coaches of the GDFL Team of the Year for a second consecutive season.

The pair guided the Tigers to their first minor premiership since 2008 on the back of an impressive 17-1 win-loss record.

Holwell was also named as ruck-rover – one of three Thomson players selected along with Sam Jacka and Paul Davis.

Second semi-final opponent Bannockburn had four players included, as did Winchelsea despite the Blues missing the finals.

Like Thomson, Inverleigh had three players named, including playing coach Adam Donohue, who was honoured with the captaincy, and Casey Meehan.

Meehan was selected despite only playing 11 games before heading overseas mid-season for study reasons.

In all, ten clubs were represented, with beaten elimination finalist East Geelong and the winless Corio the clubs to miss out.

Just six players from the 2018 Team of the Year earned selection this year: Holwell, Jacka, Bannockburn’s Matt Tyquin, Bell Post Hill’s Matt James, Inverleigh’s Michael Best and Winchelsea’s Alex Gubbins.
