MATCH OF THE ROUND

All roads lead to Victoria Park in Bannockburn for the battle of the Tigers. Thomson has swept all before it in the first half of its premiership defence, with its eight wins coming at an average margin of 85 points. Bannockburn has been almost as impressive, with a 10-point loss to Inverleigh on Anzac Day the only blemish for Peter Riccardi’s men in 2019. Thomson will be without veteran defender Adam Wiseman for the next fortnight.

CRUCIAL DAY FOR

Winchelsea and North Geelong. With Geelong West starting warm favourites to beat Belmont Lions, the loser of the Blues-Magpies clash could find themselves outside the top five at the halfway mark of the season. Winchelsea is coming off consecutive losses to Bannockburn and Thomson, while North Geelong, which has gone win-loss since Round 2, defeated Anakie by 16 points last week.

HUNDRED UP FOR HAWK

Inverleigh co-captain Jack Fiolet will play game 100 when the Hawks travel to Richmond Crescent for the clash with East Geelong. Fiolet, the son of 1992 Leigh Districts premiership player Mick, has been part of Inverleigh’s last two grand final appearances.

GAME TIMES TO CHANGE

GDFL senior matches will revert to 2:00pm start times for the remainder of the home-and-away season from Round 10. With reserve grade matches being played as four 20-minute quarters with no time-on, the GDFL was finding there was a gap of up to 30 minutes between the finish of the reserves match and the start of the senior game.
