Winchelsea vs. Anakie @ Eastern Reserve – Saturday, 2:10pm

Belmont Lions vs. East Geelong @ Winter Reserve – Saturday, 2:10pm

North Geelong vs. Corio @ Keith Barclay Oval – Saturday, 2:10pm

Bannockburn vs. Geelong West Giants @ Victoria Park – Saturday, 2:10pm

Bell Post Hill vs. Thomson @ Myers Reserve – Sunday, 2:10pm

A toss-up between the Werribee Centrals-Inverleigh and Bannockburn-Geelong West matches. Both have plenty riding on them, even at Round 6. For both the Centurions and Giants, a loss would be a blow to their top three hopes. However, both won their recent meetings with their respective opponents. Centrals surprised the Hawks in Round 13 last year, while West had the better of Bannockburn, also in Round 13, and last year’s elimination final. If the Giants can’t make it three straight against the Tigers, and results go against them, they could find themselves six points outside the top five.

Geelong West has suffered a blow with early season revelation Trent Archer set for an extended stint on the sidelines after suffering a serious finger injury at training during the interleague break. Archer, who managed just four senior matches in 2018, had featured in each of the Giants’ game so far this year. “He just went to mark the ball and hit on top of his finger and popped the bone out through the knuckle,” co-coach Andrew Clark said. “He had an operation last Wednesday and had it all pinned. At this stage, more than likely, he’ll miss the rest of the year.”

Local football great Eric ‘Bricka’ Smith will be honoured by East Geelong with the wearing of black armbands. Smith, who coached Modewarre to the GDFL Division 2 premiership in 1989, died suddenly at home on Sunday. His son Jake plays with the Eagles.
