MATCH OF THE ROUND

Fans of local footy should pencil in two games of footy to watch on Saturday, with one of the best matches of the day under lights at West Oval from 5:30pm between Geelong West and Winchelsea. It’s not quite must-win territory for the Giants, however, they’ve fallen short of 2018 grand finalists Inverleigh and Thomson in the opening month of the season. The Blues were impressive in maintaining their unbeaten record with a first win over the Hawks since 2014.

CAN LIONS BREAK THE DROUGHT?

Barring a draw, one of Bell Post Hill or Belmont Lions will open their 2019 account at Myers Reserve on Saturday afternoon. History says it will be the Panthers, who have posted 17 consecutive wins over the Lions since Round 8, 2008. You have to go even further back for the Lions’ last win at Myers Reserve – that was Round 7, 2002.

MILESTONE FOR TIGER

Star Bannockburn big man Kieran Fulton will play his 100th game when the Tigers host Corio at Victoria Park. Fulton made his debut against Inverleigh in Round 15, 2013.
