Geelong West Giants vs. Thomson @ West Oval – Saturday, 2:10pm

Inverleigh vs. Winchelsea @ Inverleigh Reserve – Saturday, 5:30pm

MATCH OF THE ROUND (1)

Recent history tells us we can expect a tight one between reigning premier Thomson and Geelong West. The Tigers rolled the Giants by 25 points in last year’s first semi-final, but prior to that two of the previous three meetings were decided by six points or less.

MATCH OF THE ROUND (2)

Inverleigh will welcome back Casey Meehan,  Toby Manganelli and Justin Baxter for a blockbuster clash with fellow unbeaten team Winchelsea. Meehan and Manganelli missed the Anzac Day win over Bannockburn to attend a mutual friend’s wedding, while Baxter represented the CFA in a match in Adelaide over the Anzac Day weekend.

CRUCIAL DAY FOR

East Geelong. The Eagles have made a solid start to 2019, with wins over Anakie and North Geelong and a competitive effort in the loss to Winchelsea at Eastern Reserve. They will get another gauge of their improvement when they host Bannockburn.

HOLWELL STILL UNDECIDED ON INTERLEAGUE

GDFL interleague coach Reece Holwell says how his body survives the next fortnight of home-and-away acton with Thomson will dictate whether he lines up in the highly-anticipated AFL Victoria Community Championships clash with the Bellarine on May 18. “If I get through the next two weeks, I’ll definitely be putting my hand up,” he said.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE HISTORY

Plenty of people wondering when Bell Post Hill last started a season with three consecutive losses. You have to go back to 2001, when the Panthers lost their first six.

THE WHISPER

The coach of which club extended training by 30 minutes on Tuesday night to make his players watch their disappointing final quarter effort last week? It is understood his words to the group were something along the lines of; “I had to sit through it, now you can”.
