MATCH OF THE ROUND
The GDFL’s two in-form teams go head-to-head in a mouth-watering clash at Galvin Park. Thomson travels up the highway with the region’s only perfect record, while Werribee Centrals have strung together four consecutive wins to sit in fourth position, two games and percentage clear of sixth-placed East Geelong, putting Nick Smith’s team in a strong position to end a six-year finals drought. However, they will face a Tiger line-up set to be boosted by the return of big man Matt Baden, defender Matt Egan, and star brothers Josh and Jarrod Westwood.
HAWKS LOSE MEEHAN
Inverleigh will be without star Casey Meehan for much of the rest of the home-and-away season. Meehan, who knocked back offers to head to the GFL for the 2019 season, is heading to England to study for five weeks. “He’s going to leave a massive hole for us,” coach Adam Donohue said. “He’s been in our best two (players) every game for the year, so he’d probably be winning our best-and-fairest by a mile. He’s having a very good season.”
CO-CAPTAINS BACK FOR BLUES
Co-captains Alex Gubbins and Clinton Place are among four handy additions to the Winchelsea team for Saturday’s crucial clash with East Geelong at Richmond Crescent. Matt Costello and Jye Price have also been named for the Blues after missing the win over Bell Post Hill.
SEASON OVER FOR SULICS
A fractured cheekbone has ended the season of Bell Post Hill veteran Attila Sulics. A four-time premiership player with the Panthers, Sulics suffered the injury in the loss to Winchelsea.
