INVERLEIGH has wrapped up its 2021 recruiting campaign in style with the return of star Dalton Grundell to the club.

A multiple Hawks’ best-and-fairest winner, GDFL Team of the Year selection, and interleague representative, Grundell spent 2019 with GFL club Geelong West, playing 15 games and kicking 11 goals.

“We contacted him, and with the recruits that we’ve already got, he obviously likes where we’re going,” Inverleigh coach Adam Donohue said.

“He gives us a lot of flexibility. He’ll play a midfield role, but we’ll also use him a bit forward as well; it’s going to be the same with most of the midfield.

“He’s very good in the air, and he’s kicked a few goals in his career as well.”

Grundell, who kicked 217 goals in 102 games for the Hawks before trying his hand in the GFL, joins Jarrod Love, Michael Best and Blake Hutchinson in returning to Inverleigh.

Throw in the addition of Kad McEwan-Walsh from Anakie and Corio’s Michael Cadman, and it’s no surprise Donohue has labelled the Hawks’ recruiting as a “successful little campaign”, as it chases its first premiership since Leigh Districts claimed the 1992 GDFL Division 2 title.

“We haven’t put a foot wrong, as yet,” he said.

Donohue said Inverleigh would start training in groups of 10 from next week in the hope of restrictions being further eased by the end of November.
