LESS than 48 hours after its season came to a disappointing end, Winchelsea has confirmed the reappointment of Brendan Forssman as coach of the club for 2020.

Forssman, who has taken the Blues to consecutive sixth-place finishes in 2018 and 2019, has signed a one-year contract extension.

President Daniel Greskie says while the club is disappointed to again narrowly miss finals after three-straight losses to end the season, he says there have been plenty of positives during Forssman’s tenure.

“Brendan’s done a wonderful job in turning our club around, and we’re rapt to announce he’ll coach on in 2020,” Greskie said.

“It’ll be a one-year extension and we’ll look at beefing up our coaching structure.

“And we’ll start putting plans in place for 2021 and 2022. So Brendan will coach and we’ll look at the future as well.”

Greskie says it will be Forssman’s call if he wants to go beyond next year.

“We don’t know how it’s going to look in the future,” he said.

“If we can find someone outside that wants to get involved, Brendan’s said he’ll continue on in something like a football director role.

“He’ll be involved with our club in the future and it’ll be a good transition.

“Potentially, it could be his last, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
