A FORMER North Geelong Football Club treasurer will spend six months in jail after pleading guilty to stealing almost $90,000 from the GDFL club.

53-year-old Steven John Janssen from Norlane was sentenced by magistrate Franz Holzer on Tuesday morning in Geelong Magistrates Court.

Janssen was charged with theft in March following an investigation into the disappearance of money from the club between December 2018 and February this year.

He is understood to have made moves to pay back the entire amount taken.

A life member of North Geelong and winner of the club’s best club person award, Janssen served four years as president between 2003-06 before spending several years on the GDFL executive as vice-president.

He also coached the Magpies’ women’s team on its entry into the inaugural VFLW competition in 2016.
