BELL Post Hill will welcome back two premiership stars and two former juniors as it looks to make a quick return to finals in 2020.

The Panthers, who missed the top five for the first time in more than a decade in 2019, have signed Dylan Witney and Nick Costello from Belmont Lions. While the Daniele brothers, Chris and Nick, return to Myers Reserve for the first time since their junior days.

Witney last played with the Panthers in 2015 before spending time with GFL club Grovedale and GDFL rival Belmont Lions, where brother Ash was coach before stepping down mid-season.

Costello was also at the Lions this year after four seasons at Bell Post Hill following a move from Anakie.

“Cosi definitely knows where the goals are, and it’s something we lacked last year,” coach Justin Tarr said.

“He’s looking pretty fit at the moment, which is good.

“And Dyl, in my opinion, is the best player in the comp. He has elite foot skills, wins his own footy, and is hard at the footy.

“We’re absolutely rapt.”

GDFL: CAREY A GIANT BOOST FOR WEST

The Daniel brothers have played with St Joseph’s and Portarlington since departing the Panthers, with Nick spending time as caretake coach of the Demons following the sacking of Matthew Sproule in mid-2016.

“I know their Dad’s really happy they’re coming back to play,” Tarr said.

“That’s a big reason why they came back.”

Bell Post Hill has also added former Newcomb and Colac Imperials player Jake Kearney, who is a cousin to Costello.

Premiership players Danny Gray (athletics) and Rhys Burke (hamstring) will also return.

Tarr will go it alone as senior coach, with Adam Wells again as his assistant.

Former Belmont Lions coach Ash Witney will have a match-day role, as will Andrew Atchison, who was an assistant to Witney at Winter Reserve.

He will also serve as a development coach and chairman of selectors.

Caleb Bacely, who shared the coaching role with Tarr in 2019, will concentrate on playing.
