INVERLEIGH has suffered a blow ahead of its crucial clash with Winchelsea following news veteran defender Justin DiBlasio will miss at least six weeks with a knee injury.

Hawks coach Adam Donohue revealed the former co-captain, who has been a key ingredient in the Hawks’ unbeaten start to the 2019 season after being dumped from last year’s grand final team, won’t be seen until at least mid-season.

“It’s pretty unfortunate for us because he was playing pretty well; he had a couple of big jobs on some key forwards,” Donohue said.

“Round 2 he had (Kad) McEwan-Walsh, who’s a big boy. Then he had Gillies last week, and up until three-quarter time, Gillies only had the one goal.

“He’s a much-loved character around the group, so it’s a bit of a blow for us.”

However, Inverleigh will be boosted by the return of Casey Meehan, Toby Manganelli and Justin Baxter, with Baxter’s especially important with DiBlasio missing.

“He brings a lot of leadership and he sets us up down there,” Donohue said.

“Fortunately we got away with is last week without Baxter.”
