NATHAN Bisset’s immediate focus will be finalising his support staff after being reappointed as Belmont Lions senior coach for 2021.

Bisset was due to lead the Lions for the first time this year before COVID-19 brought a halt to the season before it began.

“We are chasing a couple of assistant coaches, and we want to get that settled by the middle of August,” he said.

“Then are our next step will be setting some dates to get back into it based around restrictions.”

Bisset, who most recently played under Chris Moreland at Western Region club Wyndhamvale, said recruiting is just about to start in earnest for the Lions.

They have played finals only once (2015) since winning their lone senior premiership in 2017.

“We really want to set ourselves a good foundation for next year to lead into the next few seasons,” he said.

“We want to get it right, so we are taking our time and making sure that we identify gaps in our list that we can fill with certain recruits.

“We really want to add some depth into our team along with some experience.”

Despite the shutdown, Bisset has been able to build relationships with his players.

“Our big focus during the break that we’ve had has been on keeping the boys connected and keeping the legs ticking over,” he said.

“There have been kilometres getting done but nothing too strenuous.”

Meanwhile, Werribee Centrals has reappointed Nick Smith and Rhyce Prismall as co-coaches for 2021.

For Smith, it will be his third season in charge, while Prismall it will be Prismall’s first.
