A DECISION on host venues for this year’s GFL and BFL finals could be announced by the end of the week.

New Region Manager Ed Wilson told K rock Football on Sunday that AFL Barwon was close to finalising the details, with the BFL post-season just over six weeks away.

How a proposed ‘Round 19′ will play out to allow the GFL finals to be pushed back a week to ensure the grand final avoids a clash with the GDFL will also be confirmed.

“That’s something I’ll be willing to share in great detail in the coming days,” Wilson said.

“We’re doing our due diligence in terms of making sure that all the respective clubs and those involved are aware of where we’re wanting to finalise these decisions, and a few of them have been made already.

“After we have the bye week, we’ll very much come back to footy in two weeks’ time -netball of course as well – with a much clearer outlook to what the future looks like in the back end of the season.”

What we do know is it’s unlikely any finals will be played at GMHBA Stadium for the first time since 1999.

Speaking on K rock Football on April 30, Kardinia Park Stadium Trust CEO Gerard Griffin said the Stage 5 redevelopment created some logistical issues.

He revealed he had met earlier in the year with now-departed Region General Manager Bruce Harwood about GMHBA Stadium’s hosting capabilities.

“(We) talked through some of the logistics we’re navigating because one thing he needs is lots of changerooms … if he’s going to put three games on,” Griffin said at the time.

“We’re not as logistically suitable for him at the moment, so that’s now for him to back to his cohort and discuss.”
