The Wash-Up – BFL Round 9

WINNERS

BFL SCOREBOARD – ROUND 9

“THE” RESULT

Dyson Bell-Warren played the hero for Anglesea with a goal after the siren giving the Roos a crucial three-point win over Modewarre at Alcoa Oval. A veteran of 128 games for the Roos, Bell-Warren held his nerve in converting a set-shot from just outside 50m. “I was looking to pass because I was kind of on my distance range, but then the siren went,” Bell-Warren said. “It was strange. In my head it was dead silence but watching the footage back this morning, there was so much noise and carry-on and cars tooting I was just focused on kicking the ball straight, it sounds strange, but I flushed it. I got all of it and it didn’t deviate basically. I don’t know if the 50m (line) at Anglesea is 50m, but the man on the mark was about two metres inside that, so I’ve kicked it from maybe 52m or something.” The win sees Anglesea just half-a-game behind third-placed Drysdale, but only two points clear of sixth-placed Barwon Heads.

CAREY THE KEY IN GRUBBERS WIN OVER POWER

The decision by Ocean Grove coach Jordy Jones to send veteran Justin Carey forward proved to be a masterstroke in the Grubbers’ 30-point win over Newcomb. Carey, who joined Ocean Grove from St Albans ahead of the 2018 season, had kicked just 11 goals in his previous 26 outings for the Grubbers. He finished with a match-defining five goals at Newcomb Sand & Soil Oval.
