The Wash-Up – BFL Round 5

WINNERS

BFL SCOREBOARD – ROUND 5

“THE” RESULT

Torquay has climbed back into the BFL top five with a gutsy come-from-behind win over Drysdale at Mortimer Oval. Trailing by 25 points at three-quarter time, the Tigers stormed home with the aid of the breeze to beat the Hawks thanks to a late goal from playing coach Dom Gleeson. “We kicked a goal late in the (third) quarter and had the momentum,” Gleeson said. “We needed to get the monkey off the back and chase a team down because twice we’ve lost leads in the last quarter due to wind assistance and poor management by the Torquay Footy Club. The message was simple; move the footy and be brave with the footy.”

SCANS FOR COUTA GREAT

Queenscliff midfielder Tom Limb will undergo scans on a knee injury suffered in the loss to Geelong Amateur, with the Coutas crossing their fingers it’s not a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament for the 33-year-old. Limb wasn’t the only Queenscliff player that failed to see out the match at KFC Oval. Cam Habgood needed hospital treatment for a back injury sustained in the opening minutes. He has been cleared of structural damage but is likely to spend some time on the sidelines.

THE KEY NUMBER

13. The number of goals kicked by Ocean Grove recruit Cory Connor in his opening two matches. After slotting through six majors on debut against Modewarre last week, Connor helped ensure the Grubbers would avoid starting a BFL season 0-5 for the first time with seven goals in the victory over Anglesea. From Sunshine, Connor has a history of kicking goals in the WRFL reserves competition.
