The Wash-Up – BFL Round 12

WINNERS

BFL SCOREBOARD – ROUND 12

“THE” RESULT

Geelong Amateur will enter the final break of the season atop the BFL ladder after holding off Newcomb for a six-point win at a rain-soaked Newcomb Sand & Soil Oval. Ammos, which led by 21 points at the final change, were held to a single behind in the last quarter as the Power kicked 2.4 to get within one goal. “It wasn’t exactly footy for much of the day; it was just a game of metres, and whoever could hold it into their forward line and score when it was down there,” Amateur coach Kane Tenace said. “It was just one of those days where you take the four points and move on”.

SOLID RETURN FOR ABLETT AS WARRIORS OVERRUN TIGERS

Nathan Ablett kicked two goals in first senior match since last year’s grand final as Modewarre proved that lightning can strike twice. Trailing Torquay at three-quarter time for the second time this year, the Warriors stormed home with six goals to the Tigers’ one to turn an 11-point deficit into a 20-point win. On Good Friday, the reigning premier trailed Torquay by 14 points at the final change before slamming home eight goals and holding the Tigers to just one point on their way to a 35-point victory. Despite the win, Modewarre remains outside the top five on percentage. However, in what is an extremely tight BFL season, they are only two points out of third and six points behind ladder leader Geelong Amateur.

JULL RETURN GETTING MORE “UNLIKELY”

Drysdale co-coach Daniel Jull is still hopeful of playing in 2019, but the star midfielder admits the window is closing on him making an on-field appearance as he continues to battle concussion symptoms. “I haven’t put a line through it yet; I’ve got probably two or three weeks to try and up my running and intensity,” he said. “If I can do that, then there’s still a chance to play. But, it’s probably a bit more unlikely now then it was at the start of the season. I didn’t realise this was going to carry on for how long it has. The doctors don’t really know either. They don’t when it’s going to the stop.”

ERSKINE CLOSING IN ON THE TON

Jordan Erskine took his tally for the season to 74 after defying the conditions with another seven-goal haul in Anglesea’s 104-point hiding of Ocean Grove at Alcoa Oval. Based on his current average of just over six goals a game, he should become the first Roo since Jim Kelly in 1987 to top the ton in the Round 17 clash with Newcomb at Newcomb Sand & Soil Oval.
