GUN recruit Lucas Anderson has made an immediate impact in Torquay’s 70-point Good Friday win over Ocean Grove, 16.15 (111) to 7.5 (47)

The former St Joseph’s star kicked seven goals, with the Tigers were always in control of the contest at McCartney Oval after holding the Grubbers goalless in the opening term for a 34-point lead at the first change.

Ocean Grove was able to control some of the action in the second quarter, with both teams scoring 4.2.

However, 7.8 to 3.2 after half time was enough for Torquay to record a percentage-boosting win.

The Tigers’ 2019 leading goalkicker Cal Currie was the perfect foil for Anderson with three majors of his own.

Torquay was also well served by Sheldon Ham, who was playing his first senior game in nearly three years after spending 2019 at the Geelong Falcons, and Lavington recruit Tom Yensch.

Logan Taylor (two) was the only multiple goalkicker for Ocean Grove, which had solid contributions from experienced defender Glenn Campbell and Jack Rawlings, who was playing his first match for the Grubbers since 2015.

In Round 2, Torquay meets 2019 preliminary finalists Geelong Amateur, while Ocean Grove hosts Portarlington at Ray Menzies Oval.
