BARWON Heads quest to claim consecutive BFL flags for the first time in nearly 50 years has received a massive boost after confirming the signing of more than half of its 2019 premiership team.

The list is headlined by playing co-coach Mitch Herbison, best-and-fairest winner Kyle Polley and leading goalkicker Mitch Phelps, and also includes Brad and Ryan Harvey, Logan Mitchell, Michael Philp, Jayden McLauchlan, Ned Aulsebrook, Braden Eddy and Damien Horbury.

2017 best-and-fairest Cam O’Leary, who was set to play this year before the season was cancelled, and fellow 2020 recruits Will Jacobs (Warrnambool) and Zac Wright (St Mary’s) have also put pen to paper.

Billy Pelham, Matt Beckwith, Dylan O’Leary, Dom Booth, James Wills and Darcy Hewitt have also signed with the Seagulls.

“It really has been very pleasing that every player I have met has signed on immediately for the 2021 season,” football boss Brendan Curry told the club website.

“Whilst every player is disappointed that we couldn’t play in 2020, there is genuine excitement about next season.

“As a club, we should be very proud of their club first attitude, and it really highlights the players’ belief in one another and their desire to stick together and to keep achieving team success going forward.”

BFL: LOVICK TO PLAY ON

Among those yet to commit from the team that defeated Torquay nearly 12 months ago are 2018 Ash medallist Matt Dyer, 2018 best-and-fairest Sam Evans and key tall Brock Close.

Grand final best-on-ground Zac Walter (Newtown & Chilwell) and fellow young gun Charlie Sprague (St Mary’s) had planned to play in the GFL this year, while Chris Martin had signed with Geelong West in the GDFL.

Former Adelaide player Tim McIntyre, who suffered a serious knee injury in the middle of the 2019 season, will reportedly return to Hampden Football League club Koroit.

The club said it expects to announce more signings shortly.
