Seagull duo suspended

BARWON Heads will be without star duo Mat Dyer and Tim McIntyre for Saturday’s clash with fellow finals contender Anglesea after both were handed one-match suspensions by the AFL Barwon Tribunal on Tuesday night.

Dyer, who shared last year’s Ash Medal with Roo Jackson Bews, was cited by the Match Review Panel for making forceful front-on contact on Newcomb’s Scott Jennings in Saturday’s 13-point win at Howard Harmer Oval.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was unable to convince the tribunal panel of Werner Weigl (chair), Amanda Evans and Greg Davies of his innocence.

McIntyre was reported by two umpires and received a yellow card for carelessly striking the Power’s Tom Smith.

He was offered a one-match suspension but chose to challenge the ban and pleaded guilty in the hope his good record would see the penalty lessened to a reprimand.

However, the sanction for the former Adelaide Crow stayed at one week.
