MATCH OF THE ROUND

Drysdale will get another chance to test its top three credentials when it travels out to Community Bank Oval for a clash with Modewarre. The Hawks claimed the scalp co-coach Luke Matthews desired before the break in beating Barwon Heads. However, the Warriors will be keen to extend their five-game winning streak and consolidate top spot as enter the middle-third of the season. Containing Modewarre co-coach John Meesen in the ruck is going to be a massive ask for Drysdale.

‘BRICKA’ REMEMBERED

Geelong Amateur, Modewarre and Newcomb will don black armbands in memory of local football great Eric ‘Bricka’ Smith who died suddenly on Sunday. Smith was a star with Ammos during its VAFA days, where he was a two-time premiership player and three-time best-and-fairest. He also coached junior teams at the club. Smith was a senior coach at the Warriors in 1989-90, including taking them to the ’89 GDFL Division 2 premiership, and the Dinosaurs in 1992.

HISTORY AGAINST PORT

Portarlington will have to defy history hopes of ending its winless start to season 2019 when it hosts Ocean Grove. The Grubbers have had the wood on the Demons since the middle of 1994, winning 50 consecutive matches. The closest Portarlington has come to beating Ocean Grove in that time was Round 17, 1994, when the margin was 13 points.
