Saturday Spotlight – BFL Round 4

THE GAMES

Geelong Amateur vs. Newcomb @ KFC Oval – Queen’s Park – Saturday, 2:10pm

Torquay vs. Anglesea @ McCartney Oval – Saturday, 2:10pm

Queenscliff vs. Barwon Heads @ Queenscliff Recreation Reserve  – Saturday, 2:10pm

Modewarre vs. Ocean Grove @ Community Bank Oval – Sunday, 2:10pm

MATCH OF THE ROUND

Newcomb heads to KFC Oval and a meeting with Geelong Amateur as the only unbeaten team in the BFL. However, they will have to defy history to be 4-0 come 5pm Saturday. The Power has won just once in 24 meetings with Ammos at Queen’s Park – and that was back in 1998 when they were still known as the Dinos. Geelong Amateur will be looking to consolidate its spot inside the top five after Mitch Day played the hero with a goal after the siren to give his team a two-point win over Barwon Heads.

CRUCIAL DAY FOR

Torquay. The Tigers have been overrun in consecutive weeks by Barwon Heads and Modewarre after their opening round win over Geelong Amateur. Stopping Anglesea spearhead Jordan Erskine, who has 23 goals in the opening three rounds, may fall on the shoulders off experienced off-season acquisition James Saker. However, he will be reliant on the Torquay midfield pressuring their Roos counterparts.

THE NUMBER

50. Sunday’s AFL Victoria Game of the Month between Modewarre and Ocean Grove will be the 50th meeting between two clubs since the Warriors entered the competition in 1996. Modewarre won just six of the first 42 meetings, but, in a reversal of fortune, the Warriors have won six of the last seven, including four-in-a-row.
