Saturday Spotlight – BFL Round 17

THE GAMES

Barwon Heads vs. Ocean Grove @ Howard Harmer Oval – Saturday, 2:10pm

Geelong Amateur vs. Drysdale @ KFC Oval, Queen’s Park – Saturday, 2:10pm

Newcomb vs. Anglesea @ Newcomb Sand & Soil Oval – Saturday, 2:10pm

Portarlington vs. Torquay @ Ron Evans Oval – Saturday, 2:10pm

Queenscliff vs. Modewarre @ Queenscliff Recreation Reserve – Saturday, 2:10pm

MATCH OF THE ROUND

Plenty on the line for both Geelong Amateur and Drysdale when they clash at KFC Oval. A win for Ammos would be enough to claim top spot if Newcomb upsets second-placed Anglesea. A loss to Drysdale would kill off its finals chances if Modewarre, Torquay and Barwon Heads all beat their lower-ranked opponents. A loss for Ammos could see it lose top spot and be at risk of dropping to as low as fifth if it can’t beat Barwon Heads in Round 18. Former Essendon speedster Lauchie Dalgleish and ex-Leopold hardman Jesse Lothian will return to provide a boost for the Hawks. However, they will be without veteran premiership star Mitch Scott due to suspension. Geelong Amateur will be without star defender Daniel Lovick who is being rested.

ORR TO RETURN VIA RESERVES

Modewarre co-coach Seamus Orr will make his return from nearly months on the sidelines via the reserve grade match against Queenscliff. Orr hasn’t played since suffering a fractured wrist in the Good Friday clash with Torquay. He did suit up for last week’s reserves clash with Geelong Amateur but didn’t take the field.

COBBA EXPANDS PROGRAM

Former Torquay coach Craig McCaughan has expanded his FootyFit program to include a mentorship program. Running over six sessions across Geelong and Torquay in term four of the school year, the mentorship program is for junior footballs aged from 8-16 years of age who are passionate about the game and want more than just training at their junior club.
