NEWCOMB has landed a major coup in its quest to further climb the Bellarine league ladder in 2020 with Leopold great Jye Walker joining the club as co-coach.

Walker, who played 207 GFL senior games, including 199 at the Lions after eight at North Shore, will partner Rory Nicol next year.

“Jye brings with him an impressive football resume having spent the past 13 years at the Leopold Football Club,” a statement from Newcomb said.

“Amassing 200 senior games and a key member of the 2016 premiership team, Jye has also represented the GFL at Interleague level.

“Both Rory and Jye are looking forward to pushing the club into the top five next year, having won six games this year and lost another six by a margin of 30 points or less.”

Nicol’s decision to stay on at Grinter Reserve will see him equal the late Laurie DeGoldi as the Power’s longest-serving coach.
