HAVING seen his hard work off with a well-deserved grand final win, Mitch Herbison is in no hurry to walk away from the Barwon Heads coaching role.

The star midfielder has confirmed among all the revelry following the Seagulls’ drought-breaking 14-point grand final win over Torquay that he and Troy Mitchell will share the role again in 2020.

“We want to keep building on the things we’ve been working on and keep the group together, and make sure it’s not just a one-off thing,” Herbison told K rock’s The Wash-Up.

“We want to sustain this success, for sure.”

Herbison will enter a fourth season in the role next year after returning to his home club ahead of the 2017 season.

After being knocked out in the preliminary final that year, Barwon Heads went a step further the following season and booked its first grand final berth in 25 years before succumbing to Modewarre in the decider.

Findng itself outside the top five at the halfway mark of the season, the Seagulls rattled home to win eight of its final nine home-and-away games to finish second on the ladder.

Clinical performances in the qualifying final against Torquay and Geelong Amateur in the second semi-final saw them earn flag favouritism.

But unlike 2018, Barwon Heads delivered what the faithful at Howard Harmer Oval had been craving for 26 years.

“Coming back to your home club and to finally get the ultimate success, it’s an amazing feeling,” Herbison said.

“It’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life for sure.”

After being held to just six goals by the Warriors in last year’s decider, Barwon Heads had equalled that tally by quarter time on this occasion.

“We put a bit of an emphasis on (making) a good start,” Herbison said.

“To kick six (goals) in the first quarter was certainly the way to do it.”
