Heads pair named top coaches

BARWON Heads premiership co-coaches Mitch Herbison and Troy Mitchell have been further honoured after being named the Senior Coach of the Year at the AFL Barwon Community Awards on Wednesday night.

Herbison and Mitchell, who guided the Seagulls to their first flag in 26 years in beating Torquay last month, were among seven nominees for the award.

The pair beat out Colac duo Kane Leersen and Rowan McSparron, Anglesea’s Paul Nigro and Jordan Erskine, Thomson’s Reece Holwell and Brent Taylor, St Mary’s Women’s Adam Rodgers and Jack Redden, Corio’s Darren Bennett and Jackson Hollmer from Lorne.

In all, awards were presented across 15 categories.
