DRYSDALE has won the race for tough-as-nails Leopold premiership player Jess Lothian.

Lothian has been unveiled as the latest big-name signing for new coaching duo Luke Matthews and Daniel Jull, with the Hawks understood to have beaten out Queenscliff and Anglesea for the defender’s services.

He played 159 senior games for the Lions after debuting as a 17-year-old in 2009, including the club’s breakthrough GFL success in 2016.

Lothian joins former Essendon speedster Lauchie Dalgleish, Bell Park duo Jarrod Garth and Chris Lynch, and the returning Ben Carmichael (Queenscliff) and Mitch McGuire (Drysdale) among some quality additions at Mortimer Oval.

He is the seventh big-name departure from Leopold, following Nick Bourke (Kolora-Noorat), Darcy Keast (North Warrnambool), Mitch McGuire (Drysdale), Matt Miller (Werribee Centrals), Billie Smedts (North Warrnambool), and Logan Wagener (Newcomb).
