QUEENSCLIFF has boosted its attacking firepower with the signing of Jack Exell.

The son of former Geelong and Fitzroy forward Gavin, Jack spent this year with Bendigo league club Kyneton after kicking 61 goals for Stanhope in the Kyabram and District league in 2017.

Exell played TAC Cup for the Bendigo Pioneers in 2016 and made an appearance as the 23rd man for the Cats’ VFL team that same year.

Coutas coach Steve Clark says a chance meeting at Lucas Niven’s funeral in October led to the 21-year-old joining the club.

“One thing led to another, and he was right to go,” Clark said of the

“He’s a terrific young fella, and he’s a player who’s that’s going to fit in really well with where we need him to play and the role he’s going play.

“He’s had a bit of  success up forward, but he’s also had a bit of success at TAC Cup level off the half-back line.

“He’s going to complement what we do with Nathan Peoples (ex-North Shore) and the other guys we’ve got around there.”

Exell’s brother Jayden will also play locally after signing with Leopold.

Queenscliff has also added former St Mary’s big man Alex Snowdon and midfielder Charlie Pennant from Wimmera club Horsham Demons.

Clark is also hopeful of landing 198cm big man Brayden Anwyl from Rockhampton.

“He played as a ruck and key (position) either end that won the league best-and-fairest up there last year,” Clark said.

“He’s coming over in mid-January.

“Then we’ve got one more (recruit) we hope to announce just before Christmas, so that will see us done.”

Clark also confirmed two-time premiership player Cam Burnside will make his return to the club, having last pulled on the red, white and blue for the first time since 2013.

MEANWHILE, Newcomb’s busy off-season has continued with the addition of Kieren Bourke and Lachie Battaglia from St Albans, Lachie Jackman from Bomaderry and Lachie McDowell from Werribee Districts.

And Portarlington has added former Geelong Falcon Clay Mulgrew.

The Colac product, who played TAC Cup games in 2017, finished runner-up in the AFL Barwon under-19 Division 1 best-and-fairest.
