Coutas can’t take a trick

THE injury curse at Queenscliff is showing no signs of being lifted with four more additions to the medical room at the Monahan Centre.

With captain Jake Hedley, Michael Randone and Riley Martin unable to prove their fitness last Thursday, and the likes of Daniel DeGois, Matt Craig and A.J. Davie still sidelined, the Coutas’ depth has been tested so far in 2019.

Then big man Alex Snowdon (dislocated knee), Michael Smith (bicep) and Justin Maher (concussion) all failed to see out the first quarter of Saturday’s loss to Drysdale at Mortimer Oval.

That was further compounded when Jayden Exell suffered a broken collarbone in the final quarter.

“The boys were terrific on Saturday considering we were down to one on the bench at quarter time,” coach Steve Clark said.

Just nine Coutas have played every game, with Clark using 35 players through the opening nine rounds.

Queenscliff faces reigning premier Modewarre to start the second half of the season. The Coutas won both home-and-away meetings in 2018.
