TORQUAY will be boosted by the return of Paul Burchell for Saturday’s preliminary final clash with Geelong Amateur at McCartney Oval.

However, who the former Geelong VFL-listed defender replaces was still being decided on Friday by the Tigers’ coaching staff.

Coach Dom Gleeson said following last week’s first semi-final win over Anglesea that Burchell was missing due to soreness in his lower back and hamstring.

“Not a strain, just sort of an impingement,” Gleeson said. “The physio wasn’t overly confident in playing him.

“We have had a mandate this year that if you are under an injury cloud and you’re not fully fit, we’re not going to play you.

“One solider down and we’ll fill the void.”

BFL: NOW FOR A PREMIERSHIP MEDAL

The clash with Ammos doubles as Gleeson’s 100th match in charge of Torquay.

“It means a lot to me. I always wanted to be a 100-game player outside of VFL football at a local team,” he said.

“I’m a 100-game coach, and I’ve still got a few games to reach that as a player.

“It’s a really humbling acknowledgement, but I see myself at Torquay for many years to come.”
