BFL Grand Final returns to Torquay

TORQUAY’S McCartney Oval will play host to the Bellarine football and netball grand finals for the first time since 2015 after beating out Drysdale’s Mortimer Oval for the rights.

The venue, which was home to grand finals between 2007-2011 and 2013-15, will also host preliminary final day.

The first two weeks of the finals will be played at Portarlington’s Ron Evans Oval, with AFL Barwon choosing not to return the first week to Leopold Memorial Park.

“AFL Barwon is delighted to have the Torquay Football and Netball Club hosting the 2019 BFNL Grand Final Day,” Region General Manager Will McGregor said.

“McCartney Oval has long been considered the BFNL’s premier venue, so it is great reward for the complex and the club to be able to host the competition’s biggest day.

“We believe Torquay’s clubrooms, viewing space, ground and court condition- the latter of which has just received funding from the Surf Coast Shire to better the netball facilities, plus McCartney Oval’s accessibility will ensure the participating football and netball clubs will enjoy the proper showcase they deserve.

“AFL Barwon would also like to pass on its thanks to Drysdale Football and Netball Club, who have magnificently hosted the past three BFNL Grand Final days.”
