Best of the Bellarine

DANIEL Lovick, Jordan Erskine, John Meesen, Luke Williams.

Names that no doubt Bellarine interleague coach Mark Hildebrandt has salivated at the prospect of having access to when the Sharks made their return to action in 2018.

And it doesn’t end there, with the likes of Erskine’s former Grovedale teammates Jordan Harrison, Adam Donohue and Brad Surkitt also finding their way into the BFL during the off-season.

After missing out on playing the AFL Victoria Community Championships last year following the withdrawal of Sunraysia, Bellarine is scheduled to meet Wimmera for a second time in four seasons  in a 15v16 match-up.

Lovick and Meesen are both on the wrong side of 30 and may not make themselves available for selection, however Lovick was a regular representative for both the GFL and Goulburn Valley.

This side is so strong we haven’t even included Nathan Ablett, who last week signed with junior club Modewarre.

Instead we’ve plumped for reigning leading goal kicker Mitch Day at full forward, Erskine in a forward pocket and Ocean Grove veteran Jake Carmody at full forward.

Of the 25-man team we’ve selected here, 13 played in the BFL last year, with other new faces including Matt O’Dwyer, Luke Cartelli, Mitch Phelps and Ben Carmichael, who returns to the competition with Queenscliff after two years at GFL club Leopold.

We’ve also given a spot on the bench to talented Torquay recruit Patrick Kelleher after his move down the Surf Coast from St Joseph’s.
