MODEWARRE hopes to see veteran forward Nathan Ablett at some stage after the interleague break as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury that has sidelined him since the start of the season.

Warriors co-coach John Meesen says they haven’t wanted to rush the 33-year-old’s return.

“We were just taking our time with him, and it was probably reflective of where we’re at,” Meesen told K rock’s The Wash-Up.

“We go into the bye with some wins under our belt, so we can be a bit more cautious with some of those guys who are making progress from injury. So we haven’t needed to rush him back onto the field.

“We’ve had Hasker Dawborn, who’s been really good for us up forward and pinch-hitting in the ruck.

“I think he’ll probably feature in the next week or two after the bye.”

Meesen says small forward Josh McDonald is training well after missing the majority of pre-season due to cricket commitments.

“Once he was able to finish up cricket, we gave him a couple of weeks to get his head back into footy mode,” Meesen said.

“He’s been training pretty strongly, and I think he’ll be back in the next week or two as well.”
