MITCH Duncan concedes Geelong has some work to do despite climbing into the top eight for the first time this season following a thrilling five-point win over Hawthorn at the MCG.

The Cats led by as much as 30 points during the third quarter before withstanding a final-quarter burst that brought the Hawks as close as four points when forward Mitch Lewis marked and goaled at the 28-minute mark.

“We’re not playing our best, by no means,” Duncan, who had 37 disposals in his first appearance of the season, told K rock Football post-match.

“We’re fighting hard, we’re scrapping, and I suppose that’s the Geelong way.

“But we’ll keep learning, keep updating ourselves on the rules and watching footy because it’s changing all the time, we can see.

“And you’ve got to be on your game from the start.”
