At Selection – Round 23

RUCKMAN Rhys Stanley has been recalled for his first AFL match in more than a month as Geelong made two changes for Saturday’s clash with Carlton at GMHBA Stadium.

The Cats have also named forward Gary Rohan to make his return from a knee injury suffered against Fremantle in Round 20.

Tom Atkins, who underwent surgery on a hand injury earlier this week, and Jake Kolodjashnij (injured) go out of the team that lost to Brisbane by 1 point at the Gabba in Round 22.

However, Kolodjashnij has been named as an emergency.

The return of Stanley, who was dropped following the loss to Hawthorn, will see Mark Blicavs resume his place in the Cats’ backline.

“He’s been in pretty good VFL form and he gets his opportunity again. I know there’s been a lot of talk about our ruck situation, but Rhys gets his opportunity this week to put his best foot forward going into a finals campaign,” VFL coach Shane O’Bree said.

“He’s done what he’s needed to do. His ruck craft and follow-up work have been pretty good and last week the good thing is he got plenty of the ball and kicked a couple of goals.

“He’s in good form and he’s getting an opportunity, so he’s just got to take it now.”

The Blues have also made two changes.

Defender Jacob Weitering returns from injury, while David Cunningham is back just his ninth game of the season.

Former Cat Darcy Lang and rookie Michael Gibbons will both be missing due to injury.

K rock is live from 3pm on FM 95.5 across Geelong and the Surf Coast, and via AFL.com.au or the AFL app.
