At Selection – AFLW Round 1

GEELONG will unveil eight newcomers and welcome back a couple of familiar faces for its season-opening AFLW clash with North Melbourne on Saturday.

The Cats have named off-season recruits Chantel Emonson (Melbourne) and Chloe Scheer (Adelaide) for their first games in the navy blue and white hoops.

Draftees Georgie Prespakis, Zali Friswell and Annabel Johnson, mature-age pre-draft signings Claudia Gunjaca and Liv Fuller, and Irish multi-sport star Rachel Kearns will all make their AFLW debut.

Luckless vice-captain Nina Morrison will play her first match in almost two years, as will Kate Darby, who returned to the list in December as the replacement for pregnant midfielder Renee Garing.

Dani Higgins, who, along with Garing, Maddy Keryk and Julia Crockett-Grills, has played every match in the club’s short AFLW history, has been named an emergency.

In all, just 11 players that were part of the final round win over Gold Coast in 2021 will take on the Kangaroos.
