GEELONG will open next weekend’s AFLW action for the second-straight Friday night when it travels to Moorabbin for a clash with St Kilda.

The Cats’ meeting with the Saints was confirmed along with the rest of Round 4 on Sunday afternoon.’

It’ll be the first time the two clubs have met at AFLW level following St Kilda’s entry into the competition last year.

The last time Geelong featured in an elite-level match at Moorabbin was in 1991, with five goals from Gary Ablett Snr leading the Cats to a 49-point win.

“These continue to be unprecedented times and the fixture this year will continue to respond to and reflect
the situation across the country,” the AFL’s head of women’s football Nicole Livingstone said.

“We will continue to remain adaptable as we listen to and work closely with each stakeholder to ensure
the best possible outcome for everyone in the game.

“While COVID-19 continues to impact the community, the health and welfare of our players and the community remains the priority, and we remain committed to delivering a full season in a safe manner led by respective governments, public health officials and medical experts.”

Among the fixture is a Saturday night Marvel Stadium match-up between North Melbourne and Collingwood.

Four games in total will be played in Victoria, with the AFL to wait for the State Government’s advice on whether crowds will be able to attend those matches.
