GEELONG recruit Gary Rohan is confident the Cats can challenge for a premiership over the next two years.

The former Sydney speedster, who was traded to the Cats during the off-season, believes Geelong has the right mix to contend again.

“I’ve got good confidence we’ll make finals again; hopefully go all the way,” Rohan said as Geelong launched its Christmas festivities.

“We’ve got the main group, then you’ve got a couple of players coming through.

“The balance is getting better, and I’m really confident within, hopefully, the next two years we’ll definitely be up there on the last day (of the season).”

The 27-year-old looks set to join fellow off-season acquisition Luke Dahlhaus in a new-look Geelong forward line that will look to increase the pressure opposition defences.

“Getting Dahlhaus and myself in, that’s probably our strength – that forward pressure,” he said.

“Hopefully we can bring that to the table and help the boys out.”

Rohan was only expected at training this week but took the chance to get to know his new teammates with regular appearances at Deakin University’s Elite Sports Precinct over the last fortnight.

“Training’s been going well. I’ve done every session now, and the body feels good,” he said.

“So, I’ve just got to keep on recovery and make sure I’m out there.

“The longer I’m out there, the better I’m going to be.

“Obviously, I’m getting used to the boys and how they play.”

For Rohan, it’s a rare occasion where he has been injury-free at the start of pre-season.

“It does give me a boost – I’ve never done day one of pre-season,” he said.

“I’ve come back in pretty good shape and hit the ground running day one.

“Moving around and that kind of stuff, I’m definitely feeling 100 per cent confident in the body. It’s feeling pretty good at this stage.”

Rohan is among a number of Geelong’s AFL and AFLW contingent who will make appearances at GMHBA Stadium on December 1, 8 and 15 as part ‘Christmas with the Cats’.

He will be at the launch of the Cats Christmas Tree at Charles & Co. Cafe this Saturday along with captain Joel Selwood, fellow newcomer Nathan Krueger, and AFL Women’s duo Mel Hickey and Denby Taylor.
