JUST when you thought Geelong’s AFLW season couldn’t get much worse, confirmation star midfielder Olivia Purcell has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

The reigning Cats’ best-and-fairest was forced from the ground during the quarter of the 47-point loss to Richmond at GMHBA Stadium.

“We are so disappointed; this isn’t the news we hoped to hear. We will wrap our arms around Liv and continue to support her,” Geelong’s AFLW boss Brett Johnson said in a statement.

“We know she will tackle this challenge with strength and determination.”

Drafted by the Cats with pick no.14 in the 2018 National Draft from the Geelong Falcons, Purcell had played every game since Geelong entered the competition in 2019.

She was Geelong’s leading disposal winner at 17.75 per game heading into the loss to the Tigers.

The Cats will decide on what path to take with surgery and rehab in the coming days.
