New deal for Miers

GEELONG has locked away Gryan Miers until the end of 2023 after the small forward signed a two-year contract extension.

Currently sidelined with a leg injury, Miers has played 57 games and kicked 58 goals since debuting in the opening round of 2019.

He had played 53 consecutive matches until suffering a fractured leg against Sydney in Round 8.

From local club Grovedale, the Cats selected Miers in the 2017 National Draft after a 50-goal season with the Geelong Falcons, including seven in that year’s TAC Cup grand final.

“Gryan is a highly intelligent footballer who continues to work and improve on his game,” Cats football boss Simon Lloyd said.

“He cares deeply about the club and we see him as an important player for our team, both now and into the future.

“There was mutual desire to extend the contract and we are glad to have finalised the details.

“While Gryan is sidelined currently we are optimistic in his return over the coming weeks.”

Geelong still has several players yet to re-sign for 2022, including reigning best-and-fairest Cam Guthrie.
