LONG-SERVING captain Joel Selwood has joined a growing list of Geelong players urging their teammates to make sure they use the double-chance afforded to them.

For the fourth time in five seasons, the Cats have found themselves taking the long way to the grand final after a 43-point loss to Port Adelaide in last Friday’s qualifying final.

Geelong faces the GWS Giants for the first time in September this Friday at Optus Stadium for the right to meet Melbourne in the following week’s preliminary final.

“We need to respond,” Selwood, who will break former teammate Corey Enright’s club games record of 332 matches against the Giants, said.

“We don’t look back too much on what it is. We’ve reviewed the game for what it was.

“We played poor. We didn’t have a lot of winners on the night.

“But, we’ve set ourselves up for a second chance, so it’s time to use that up.

“In (a) best-case scenario, you don’t have to use it up. But, we are fortunate we have given ourselves that chance.”
