Miers hopes for Round 23 return

GRYAN Miers hasn’t ruled himself out of returning to the Geelong team for next weekend’s minor premiership-deciding match-up with Melbourne.

The Cats small forward has been sidelined since the win over Richmond on July 25 after suffering a recurrence of a leg fracture that occurred in the loss to Sydney in Round 8, halting his run of 53 consecutive matches from his debut.

“It was a reccurrence in a way… we’re still not 100 per cent sure,” Miers, who signed a two-year contract extension last week, told K rock Football. “It’s such a hard thing to work out on scans what’s I’ve done to it.

“It was a freak accident, where I was bending over for a footy and copped a knock exactly to where I broke it.

“It’s caused a lot of damage throughout my leg. I’ve tried to run around a few times, and it just wouldn’t allow me to. I’d get these weird pain all the way throughout.

“It’s been different to last time … but it’s kept me out in similar ways. I just haven’t been able to put the weight through it.

“The last few days, I have been able to, so hopefully that continues that way.”
