Load management for Mitch

GEELONG midfielder Mitch Duncan will undertake an individual training program for much of January before rejoining the main training group.

The 30-year-old was a notable onlooker as the majority of his teammates sweated through a tough running session to mark the return to pre-season at Deakin University on Monday.

However, he has put to bed any concerns about his fitness despite being limited to just 13 games in 2021.

The majority of his time spent on the sidelines resulted from a knee injury suffered against the Bulldogs in Round 14.

“It was just managed load,” the veteran of 236 games said. “At the end of last year, I had a baby and moved house, so we just kind of managed my loads a little bit.

“They’re slowly creeping back up now.

“They’re doing it smartly; I’ve missed the last two pre-seasons with some injuries, so (we’re) just managing smartly, and I’m on a bit of an individualised program.

“Probably in the next couple of weeks, to be honest, you’ll see me running around.”
