JAKE Kolodjashnij is hopeful of recovering from injury in time for Geelong’s qualifying final clash with Collingwood on September 6.

The reliable defender missed the final round win over Carlton due to a hip issue.

“I had a little bit of irritation going into the Brisbane game,” Kolodjashnij told the Cat Attack Podcast.

“But speaking with the physios during the week, I was pretty happy to play, (and) they were comfortable with that decision.

“I stirred it up a little bit post that game, so I’ve been on pretty light duties for the last week.”

Kolodjashnij, who played on Magpie livewire Jordan DeGoey at stages in Geelong’s win in Round 1 in the only meeting between the two clubs, is about to return to running.

“I’ve got roughly ten days until the final. So I’ve still got plenty of time to put my case forward and get plenty of good fitness going into that game,” he said.

Kolodjashni also revealed he suffered some bone bruising after hyperextending his knee in the one-point loss to the Lions in Round 22.

The 24-year-old admits he was initially concerned he had suffered more severe damage.

“I was actually pretty worried just because of the way I was coming down,” he said.

“It was all pretty nerve-wracking, but I knew straight away that it was pretty good.

“It was just a bit sore from the contact from the bones crushing (together).”
