Cocky heads home

LUCKLESS Geelong forward Nakia Cockatoo has returned to Victoria and will undergo surgery on a wrist injury suffered during a scratch match for non-selected AFL players last month.

The 23-year-old hasn’t played at AFL level since Round 3, 2018 as he has battled a range of lower-body injuries.

“Nakia was able to play through his wrist issue for a number of weeks, but we made the decision last week to prioritise what is best for him long-term which meant sending him home to Victoria for surgery,” football boss Simon Lloyd said.

“Nakia will have surgery later this week in Melbourne, and begin a rehab program immediately as he looks towards 2021.

“Nakia and his partner Grace are awaiting the arrival of their first child as well, and we wish them all the best in this exciting time of their lives.”

Drafted with pick No.10 in 2014, Cockatoo has been restricted to just 34 AFL games.
