GEELONG will play host to Hawthorn at GMHBA Stadium for the first time in 14 years to restart its 2020 AFL season.

The Cats will meet the Hawks in a Friday night clash on June 12, among three matches at the venue in the four rounds revealed by the AFL.

The previous 27 match-ups between the two clubs – which includes five finals – have been at the MCG.

There have also been games at Docklands and York Park since Hawthorn held off Geelong for a four-point win at Kardinia Park in Round 3, 2006.

Geelong will also host Carlton on June 20 and Gold Coast on July 4, with both matches on a Saturday night.

The Cats lone away game is a trip to the MCG to take on Melbourne on Sunday, June 28.

The match-up with the Suns is likely to coincide with Gary Ablett’s 350th AFL matches and captain Joel Selwood’s 300th for Geelong.

“The release of the fixture has created a buzz for everyone at the club, our members and supporters, as it moves us closer to being back on the field,” CEO Brian Cook said.

“To have three home games at GMHBA Stadium is exciting. Hawthorn hasn’t been here to play since 2006, and this will add a unique aspect to the game for all those watching on Channel 7 and Fox Footy.

“We have seen Carlton down here in the past few years and Gold Coast has been a regular opponent. Playing away at the MCG is always a great part of footy, recent games against Melbourne have been fierce.

“We are pleased that the AFL has recognised the importance of our club playing home games at GMHBA Stadium and look forward to the resumption of the 2020 season.”
