GEELONG will meet Richmond and travel to the Gold Coast as part of its preparation for the 2022 AFL season.

The AFL has confirmed the Cats will meet the Tigers in a pre-season game on one of the last two weekends of February, with the venue likely to be in Geelong.

It will be the first time Richmond has played in Geelong since late in the 2017 season.

While the Cats will head north on Monday, March 7, for its AAMI Community Series match-up.

It will be the second time in three years Geelong has met the Suns at Metricon Stadium in the pre-season and will be the first of two trips to the Gold Coast in 2022 with the two clubs to meet in Round 22.

“The decision to proceed with this model was made in consultation with Clubs as we look to safeguard the health and safety of the competition and the community by minimising travel prior to the Toyota AFL Premiership Season,” the AFL’s Marcus King.

“Equally, this arrangement provides Clubs with the ability to determine individual requirements to best prepare for the season ahead.”
