Magpies rule out trio

COLLINGWOOD will enter Friday night’s clash against reigning premier the Western Bulldogs without Jamie Elliott, Levi Greenwood and Jordan De Goey.
Elliott, who missed all of 2016 with a back problem, has an ankle issue, but is closing in on a return, Greenwood needs hip surgery, and De Goey has a broken hand suffered at home across the weekend.
Greenwood will miss 4-5 weeks, while De Goey is facing 2-3 weeks on the sidelines.
“Jamie was pretty unlucky not to overcome that troublesome ankle in time but we expect him to be back in the selection mix shortly and we’ll further assess Jordy and Levi following their procedures,” football manager Geoff Walsh said.
“It’s disappointing to have to rule out players leading into the season opener, however it opens the door for other players who have had strong pre-seasons to get a crack at the reigning premiers this Friday night.”
They join North Melbourne recruit Daniel Wells (calf) in being ruled out.
MEANWHILE, Adelaide is hopeful of captain Taylor Walker (hamstring) and his deputy Rory Sloane (eye socket) will be right to play the GWS Giants on Sunday at Adelaide Oval.
We’re extremely hopeful at the moment that they will both be right,” ruckman Sam Jacobs said.
“Sloaney has really started to step up his training the last couple of weeks so we’re pretty confident that he should be able to get up.
“And also Tex will be a wait and see … he’s doing everything right, he has been out on the track and making sure that he’s looking after it off-field so at the moment we’re pretty hopeful for both of them.”
